The University has established the below requirements for students who request to waive the student health insurance plan due to alternate health insurance.

Alternate Health Insurance Requirements:

To obtain an approved waiver request, your alternate health coverage must meet or exceed the requirements as set forth below and AHP must receive the waiver request by the waiver deadline listed for your school (see specific deadlines above).

  1. Medical coverage must be currently active; and
  2. Medical coverage must be ACA Compliant.
    1. Examples of approvable plan types are below:
      1. Employer-provided health insurance plans
      2. Marketplace Plans (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum)

Please note-- travel plans, short term plans, limited benefit/indemnity plans, healthcare sharing plans, or any plans that require you to pay for treatment yourself and then apply for reimbursement do NOT meet Texas Tech University HSC El Paso’s alternate health insurance requirements.
